Follow my daily 12 tech days of Christmas. The words of the perennial 1909 festive song by Frederic Austin’s original have changed slightly, but the meaning is all the same. Merry Christmas!

“On the eighth day of Christmas my tech love gave to me, eight vacuum cleaners, seven image catchers, six shiny laptops, five top-tier smartphones, four odd collections, three streaming players, two instant photos and a java in a pear tree.”

Actually, it’s one high-tech vacuum cleaner on steroids with eight attachments! The Dyson V8 Absolute might seem too pricey, at $699.99 but its features fast become apparent the first time you try it.

12 TECH DAYS OF CHRISTMAS…DAY 6

Follow my daily 12 tech days of Christmas. The words of the perennial 1909 festive song by Frederic Austin’s original have changed slightly, but the meaning is all the same. Merry Christmas!

“On the sixth day of Christmas my tech love gave to me, six shiny laptops, five top-tier smartphones, four odd collections, three streaming players, two instant photos and a java in a pear tree.

Just a few years ago, laptops were doomed to extinction along with desktops as iPads and multi-tasking smartphones got more attention. Not anymore. Laptops are back, as gaming devices and more importantly, consumer targeted as innovative, thinner, lighter and portable computers with sharper multi-swing screens, especially for Windows 10.

Follow my daily 12 tech days of Christmas. The words of the perennial 1909 festive song by Frederic Austin’s original have changed slightly, but the meaning is all the same. Merry Christmas!

On the fifth day of Christmas my tech love gave to me, five top-tier smartphones, four odd collections, three streaming players, two instant photos and a java in a pear tree…

The best smartphones today are getting so good, it’s hard to choose between them. Let’s take a quick look at the top five. First, let me pre-empt with one phone feature I am particularly fussy with…photography. On the long run, cool camera tricks each phone has don’t hold value because as time goes on, what matters more are the plain pictures of the folks important to you. What do I look for in a good phone camera? Natural colour, deep blacks, less digital noise when shooting in dark scenes without flash and the best red colours, the Achilles Heal of digital cameras.

Decisions, decisions – the LG V20 superwide, normal view lens or Hasselblad 10X zoom Moto Z Mod add-on.. I want both!

Dyson V8 Absolute…a cordless vacuum on steroids

The new Dyson V8 Absolute cordless vacuum will suck the money out of your wallet as fast as it does dust and dirt.

Is it worth it? Compared to its previous more affordable siblings, as low as $299.99 on www.dysoncanada.ca , the V8, $699.99,  seems to be following Moore’s Law, that the number of transistors in a dense integrated circuit doubles approximately every two years.

We ate some of that with wine served under the Edmonton Centre skylight.

Save lot’s on Amazon PrimeDay for Canada, tonight!

My Amazon Prime Purchaces saved me more than $100, enough to pay the annual membership and free 2-day delivery
My Amazon Prime purchases saved me more than $100, enough to pay the annual membership and free 2-day delivery

Amazon Canada’s 24-hour digital boxing day equivalent PrimeDay is back tonight at midnight PT. You have to be an Amazon Prime member, or start with a one-month free trial. The one-year membership for Canadians costing $79 (plus tax) is a watered down version of the pricier $99 USD US membership, minus the Media Entertainment features.

Is the $79 CDN Amazon Prime membership worth it? It depends on how you use it. My one-year media trial membership is up this Saturday.

Was it worth it for me? Yes! I ordered 10 items for a total of $204.60. I saved more than $100 compared to other online stores, including regular Amazon and real local stores on equivalent items.
